It's been almost an entire year since we started the Man's Man's Man feature.  There have been some controversial choices along the way and a lot of rubbing of heads trying to work out who should be next. But there was never a shadow of a doubt that the following gent would make the list.  In fact he was the very first one we thought of, but we've been saving the best until last.  As you know the criteria by which the Man's Man's Men are selected is not as obvious as one might expect and although all of our previous nominees have ticked all the boxes, this our final Man's Man's Man takes those boxes, folds them up and puts them in his pocket and saunters off with them, probably to a lavish casino or something.

Yes when the concept of Man's Man's Man came into being this was the guy we were thinking of, the top dog, the A number 1. the king of men (sadly no longer with us), he lit up the silver screen and the racetrack alike, yes none other than Steve McQueen...

Not, I'm sure, what a lot of people would call a classically handsome man, but so absolutely soaked in so much charisma his looks are almost irrelevant.

His movie roles have ignited the flame of male machismo in a million hearts, his ability to literally switch from ice cool to warm and cheeky and then back to solid man of ice again is startling. From rough and ready to suave and sophisticated in the blink of an eye, the man simply oozes class and character. He's a cop, he's a convict, he's a race car driver and a cowboy, a bounty hunter and a thief... he's an icon.

Let's put him through the checklist.

He has charisma overload.
No question.  He's got all the angles covered… Thomas Crown smooth or The Cooler King rough you choose.

You wouldn’t want to fight him.
Notorious for doing most of his own stunts Steve kept the same level of intensity throughout his private life as well… acting and doing stunt work not enough, hell why not become a racing driver.  Apart from the obvious physical toughness that comes with such a lifestyle, there's simply no way I could ever bring myself to fight the man who tried to make that jump over the barbed wire to get away from the Nazis… aint gonna happen.  You win Steve.

He's not a twat
Stupid question.  No he's not.

He is über cool
He is The Cooler King.  The Man of Men.  Ladies and Gentlemen.  The greatest aspiration for mankind (emphasis on the man there) the world over for generations past, present and no doubt those yet to come as well.

Mr Steve McQueen.
