Thursday The New Friday? Nope. PDF Print E-mail

They used to say "Thursday is The New Friday", which all seemed to make some kind of sense if you put it into an after working hours, social drinking situation.  But since then things have gotten a little more complicated, so braingunk decided that it was about time that we explained the current state of affairs for you...

As mentioned above many people have started treating Thursday as if it were Friday, so many people in fact, that most of the London city bars have become intolerably overcrowded on a Thursday (The New Friday) night. So Wednesday would now seem to have, by the application of some simple logic, become a more preferable day than Thursday to go out drinking in the city.  It's established itself as The New Thursday, which, as we've already covered is The New Friday, thus by proxy Wednesday has now become The New, New Friday and Thursday has gone back to being The Old Thursday… and I'm sure that we could all cope with that situation… unless of course someone decided that Monday is now Funday… which they have.  This complicates things a little , because now that Monday has become a whole new and independent day of drunken revelry, its little brother Tuesday in turn had to change as well.

Bluesday Tuesday is now of course globally recognized as the worst day of the week, because it doesn't share the adopted "The Weekend Starts Here" spirit that Wednesday enjoys, thanks to its new found position as The New Thursday (or The New, New Friday if you insist), neither does it bask in the more controversial "The Week Starts Here" irony and defiance of Funday Mondays.

Of course Saturday remains The Old Saturday although there has been some talk of how it has become far more like a Friday than a Saturday these days, so perhaps it's worth going the whole hog and naming Saturday The New New New Friday and reverting Wednesday back to simply being The New Thursday. This does however cause a bit of confusion about Sundays, traditionally a bit of a non starter day and so perhaps Bluesday Tuesday (which is a far duller day) could take up its position as The New Sunday.  This of course would mean that the day before Bluesday Tuesday (The New Sunday) would end up being The New Saturday… and that means changing Funday Monday again, but we're sure you’ll agree it makes perfect sense.

The only remaining day that doesn't seem to have a logical role in the modern scheme of things is Friday.  It does however still exhibit the kind of atmosphere it always has, but what with first Thursday and then Wednesday and now Saturday stealing its crown it does feel a little diminished in its importance when it comes to social planning. And so it has been decided (by those in the know) that Friday shall now be referred to as Friday The Other Friday.

I hope this article has cleared up any confusion that you may have been experiencing and helps you plan your week accordingly.

This has been a braingunk public information article.
